Data use

Product catalog privacy

ShelfToMeal remembers valid barcode products privately for faster future scans. For manually completed products, a separate default-on preference may create a pending catalog suggestion that you can turn off before saving.

Purpose and proposed lawful basis

The purpose is to improve lookup of generic product metadata. The proposed basis for the moderated suggestion is legitimate interests under GDPR Article 6(1)(f), subject to a documented balancing assessment before production deployment. This control is not described as consent.

Fields submitted

Only normalized barcode, barcode format, product name, optional brand, package quantity and unit, category, locale, and safe source metadata are included. An internal account ID is retained only for authorization and audit.

Moderation and visibility

Every suggestion starts as pending. An administrator must approve, edit and approve, reject, or merge it. Other users can look up only approved generic product metadata.

What is never shared

Current inventory stock, expiration dates, notes, cooking or recipe history, raw photos, email, phone number, and public identity are not included in catalog suggestions or approved catalog records.

Your controls

Turn off future suggestions at any time in Settings or switch off the inline control before saving. Private inventory and private barcode memory continue to work. Disabling affects future suggestions only; you can withdraw your own pending suggestions in Settings.
